Ducted Type Heat Pumps
An air handler (just another name for the bit that does the heating or cooling and distributes the air with a fan) mounted in the ceiling space of a home has ducting connected to it to distribute air through a grill into several areas at once.
Design And Expertise Required
Ducted systems are great but they need to be designed properly by someone who not only knows about sizing the capacity correctly but they also need to understand design principles of air flow and temperature control and its specific requirements with regards to ducted heat pump systems.
They are sometimes installed like a ducted gas system without people realising that they use a low volume air flow system where as a ducted gas system has a hi volume air flow. If desinged and installed incorrectly this means they won’t provide the level of comfort someone expects when paying a premium for a heating system. This type of installation is done to try and reduce the cost of a ducted heat pump system and would not be my recommendation.
Lots Of Pitfalls Use An Expert To Design And Install
There are many variables for this option far too complex to generalise, if you have the budget take the time find the experts, make sure you understand what areas will be heated and cooled and how it will be controlled.
You want to find out how each area will be controlled or not and what this will do for energy use. As an example could you just run your bedroom at night or would you have to heat or cool the entire house.
If budget is of less concern, comfort more important than running costs (they are economical) and you don’t want to see those wall or floor unit than this option could be for you.
Find an expert company for this and leave it to the specialists. You will likely get what you pay for.
