Floor Console Heat Pumps
They started out as large ugly looking units which if where in a large living area looked ok (Semi Commercial looking and I have one in my house its 14 plus years old but still works well ). The later models have been reduced in size (most can even be recessed into the wall to make them even slimmer) and have a bottom vent to blow hot air from this as well as the one on the top of the unit.
The one downfall of this unit is that is does take up floor space but if you have the room and are willing to pay the extra cost (They cost more than a wall unit the same size) this would be my choice for a home heating system in this range of heat pumps.
They are designed to sit on the floor but some can be lifted 100mm to 200mm off the floor.
Because the air is closer to the ground when being distributed they are a lot less likely to create a draught.
You are likely to pay a premium for these and in many of the colder regions of New Zealand they are the only option to consider when comparing to a wall unit.
They can come as a single unit of be part of a multi split system, this is where you have one outdoor unit and multiple indoor units.
