Wall Mounted Heat Pump Units (Hi-Wall)
These are by far the most common type of indoor unit used in New Zealand homes. They originated as air conditioning unit and that’s why they are mounted high on the wall because cool air falls, when on the heating mode the front louver is pointed down to blow the hot air to the ground.
Install At The Right Height
While some people have mounted them low on the wall as this makes some common sense with regards to hot air rises, they are not designed for this and it is possible that any manufacturer warranties are voided if doing this. Using a floor mounted system is the correct way to have this option.
Mounting them too close to the ceiling can also effect the operation. The cpmany you choose to install your system should understand the importance of positioning a heat pump for maximum performance.
Avoid Or Minimise Draughting
Draught is the biggest issue with this type of system, (not to the point where you should not have one) and careful consideration should be given to where the indoor unit is positioned with some brands being worse than others. Positioning is often a balancing act between what the end user wants from how it will look to what is best for performance of the system.
Condensate Pumps Avoid In Homes
As they need a condensate drain installed (For the water from cooling mode) this can limit where to put them in an existing house particularly if an outside wall can not be used, while condensate pumps can be used for domestic use this should be avoided at all costs, unless you have no other options and are prepared to have the on-going maintenance required (This means expect on going costs).
Comfortable And Affordable Home Heating
Get the right size, positioned correctly and installed correctly they offer a very comfortable and affordable heating solution and that’s why they are so popular.
They can come as a single unit of be part of a multi split system, this is where you have one outdoor unit and multiple indoor units.
